Education Advocacy
Families of school-age children with developmental disabilities may require the skills of a trained professional to help them advocate for the educational services they believe are due their child. The Educational Advocate will work with the family and the School District towards the common goal of providing the best possible education in the least restrictive environment. No fee. Please call (845) 267-2500. Ask for Family Services.
Overnight Respite
Families may attend to medical needs, take a vacation, spend a night or two out of town with the knowledge that their adult child, age 16 and over, with a developmental disability, is in safe and competent hands. Young adults with developmental disabilities may visit the respite home for several days or a week to test the waters of living in a community residence. Meals and activities are provided. No fee. Ask for Residential Services.

Teens and Tweens
The time of life to have the time of our lives. This the time to build lasting friendships, find new interests, and gain independence. The teen years are years of exploration and discovery. With the help of ARC, a world of opportunities for education, socialization and community involvement are available to teens and pre-teens with developmental disabilities.

Teen Travelers
Apple picking in the autumn, a trip to the Bronx Zoo, pizza and a movie, a visit to the Hudson River Museum, music at Lincoln Center, Ringling Bros. Circus – these are among the destinations. For young people ages 13 to 21, teen travelers is a perfect opportunity to meet with friends, old and new, while gathering memorable experiences.

 

Club ARC
Ahh summer -
a picnic lunch under shady evergreens beside a crystal clear lake.
Hiking in the woods. Archery. Boating. Swimming. Ecology and nature courses. Music, arts and crafts. Team sports and games. A Yankees or Mets Game, Rye Playland. An honest to goodness camp experience for young people with developmental disabilities. Club ARC is situated on the wooded, lakeside grounds of Camp Bullowa in Historic Stony Point, NY. Special Olympics
Show your athletic prowess by becoming involved in Special Olympics. Friendly competition Please call ARC Recreation at (845) 267-2500.

Family Education
An ARC professional discusses the range of services available to the person with the disability and to the family including financial and life planning assistance. including the development of wills and trusts. No fee. (845)267-2500. Ask for Family Services.

Transportation
People with developmental disabilities who live at home may utilize this service to attend social activities, medical appointments or recreational programs within the Rockland County community. Call ARC's Recreation Division at (845) 267-2500 to arrange for services.

Family Reimbursement
Direct reimbursement for goods and services is available to eligible families of people with developmental disabilities. Groceries, medical bills, money to pay for someone to stay with a teen while the parents attend to business, are among the possibilities. Need based. No fee. Call (845) 267-2500. Ask for Family Services.

Service Coordination
A skilled professional will meet with your family and your pre-teen or teen with a developmental disability on an ongoing basis. The Service Coordinator will visit the family home to offer information and education relevant to the particular family situation. The Service Coordinator is the point person through which families may negotiate and acquire the sometimes baffling array of services, offerings and opportunities available locally and throughout the county and state. Guardianship Training
By law, a parent is the natural guardian of his or her child until that child is 18. Once the child is 18, a parent or sibling, or another potential guardian must petition the Surrogate's Court to grant guardianship status over the adult with disabilities. ARC assists families in completing the paper work necessary to petition for legal guardianship. No fee for ARC of Rockland Guardianship Workshops. Call (845) 267-2500. Ask for Family Services.
