Respite

At The Arc Rockland, we understand the need to take a break from the routine, the importance of refueling and re-energizing. For some, respite means down time. For others, it’s the time it takes to accomplish items on a to do list. Whether it is an hour a day, a few days a week or a few weeks a year, for families of loved ones with disabilities, respite is a necessary reprieve from the demanding challenges of daily life.

Children's Respite

After school and weekend respite give working parents the time they need to keep pace with busy lives. Children will enjoy supervised activities at The Arc's Prime Time location in New City. Call 845. 639.2425 for information.

Prime Time Plus Vacation Respite

Available to children ages 5 through 12 with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, this program takes place three times a year during regular school vacations—winter and spring school vacations and two weeks at the end of summer. A boon to working parents and fun for children, Prime Time Plus features games, crafts, sports and special events. There is no cost to families, eligible children not affiliated with The Arc Rockland are  welcome.

School Vacation Teen Travelers

When school is out, the fun begins. Five days of action and activities take place three times yearly during school vacations. Participants ages 12-21 meet before heading out for sites similar to those enjoyed by weekend Teen Travelers. There is always a stop for lunch at a local restaurant where teens find time to dine and socialize.

Overnight Adult Respite

Your adult child, age 15 and over, will enjoy his or her stay in this lovely, safe apartment. Nutritious, delicious meals and recreational activities within the community are part of the overall experience. Families can attend to medical needs, take a vacation, travel for business or spend time out of town with the knowledge that their loved one is in caring and competent hands. Or,  arrange for your loved one to visit the respite apartment for several days or a week  to learn how it feels to live away from home.

In-Home Respite

In this harried, hurried world, it seems there is never enough time to get everything done. One of The Arc Rockland's  trained professional will provide respite at the family home giving parents/full-time caregivers a chance to help other children with homework, drive them to various after school activities, respond to e-mails, cook a meal, head for the supermarket, attend to medical appointments—all with the knowledge that their loved one is in capable hands.
